7 Steps To Achieving Healthy Skin.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and often it gets neglected. We spend time and money on our homes, cars and other possessions, so why not our bodies including our skin? Whether you want to use high end products or the bare minimum, your skin deserves the proper attention. Once you know your skin type and choose the right products, your skin care routine will be unique to you.

The following steps will help you to achieve healthy, glowing skin. Step One

Cleansing (morning and night) Our skin regenerates itself daily, therefore cleansing is important. Cleansing helps to remove dirt, grime and dead skin. Whether you use a cream based cleanser or cleansing wash will be a matter of preference. Step Two

Toning (morning and night) Many of us do not see the point in using a toner but there is, not only does it remove any remains of dirt or makeup you have missed when cleansing, it also puts the ph balance back into your skin. Use a toner that will suit your skin type and above all avoid toners which contain alcohol because continuous use will strip away the protective barrier that protects the skin from free radicals. Toners which contain active, natural ingredients will help to hydrate the skin while giving it a fresher appearance.

Step Three

Serum (morning and night) Serums are an essential part of your daily skin care routine because they contain high levels of concentrated ingredients that will help to combat problem areas including, breakouts, dehydration, dullness and will help to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, especially if the serum you use contains hyaluronic acid, vitamins or collagen. Step Four

Exfoliate (once a week) It is recommended to exfoliate at least once a week. Whether you use a cream based exfoliator or one containing granules, will depend on your skin type. If you have sensitive skin it is better to use a cream based exfoliator which contains natural calming ingredients and will be less abrasive to your skin.

Step Five

Mask (once a week) Applying a mask once or twice a week will give the skin a boost and help to give it a clearer, brighter complexion. Using a clay based mask will help to reduce the appearance of large pores that may have become congested due to the build up of dead skin cells and sebum. Moisturising masks will help to keep the skin soothe, soft and hydrated. Step 6

Moisturising (morning and night) Using a moisturiser day and night that contains active ingredients including hyaluronic acid or collagen will give the skin a nourished, hydrating, smoother appearance. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in different parts of the body. As our skin begins to age the moisture levels depletes causing the skin to age. Hyaluronic acid helps to retain moisture, keeping the skin well hydrated, plumper and firmer while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen is a protein found in our body and helps to give the skin it's elasticity when our skin ages it begins to loose that elasticity which causes fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen boosts skin cell regeneration while helping it to look plumper and firmer. Whatever moisturiser you decide to use, try and invest in one that contains SPF which will help to protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun.

Step 7 Eye cream

(morning and night)

The skin around our eyes is very thin and delicate, using an eye cream helps to reduce wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. We tend to notice wrinkles and lines more around that area than any other part of our face. Many people are guilty of using only their moisturiser for around the eyes but it is not advisable to do so because this can cause irritation and has a heavier consistency than eye cream. Eye creams contain higher levels of ingredients that are specifically formulated for around the eyes.

Incorporating these steps and combing them with a healthier lifestyle including, keeping hydrated, eating the right foods and getting enough sleep will help you to feel better and look your best.
