If we could choose between giving ourselves a facial massage or having it done by a qualified spa therapist we would choose the latter. We love the feeling we get when visiting a spa, especially after having a facial treatment. Our skin is left feeling soft, hydrated and glowing. While it may not always be possible to visit a spa on a regular basis there is a way to experience a similar result in the comfort of your own home. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
It is important to implement a daily skincare routine. Start by cleansing your face, followed by exfoliating or applying a mask once a week in addition to toning and moisturising. Although these steps are the basics to a good skincare routine there are also steps in between, such as applying SPF when needed, a serum and giving yourself a facial massage which can benefit the skin in many ways, including detoxifying the skin, lymphatic drainage, improving circulation which in turn will help to increase the production of collagen and elastin. Furthermore a good facial massage will reduce stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling extremely relaxed.
The products you will need:
EXFOLIATOR.
Exfoliating your skin should be part of your skin care routine, the products you use will vary depending on your skin type. Make sure to use circular motions around the skin to stimulate and improve circulation this will enable your skin to have a brighter more youthful appearance. One of our go to exfoliators is The Elemis Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly
Exfoliator which is part of the Elemis superfood range, infused with plant-based, nutrient-dense superfoods and natural extracts such as kale, goji berries, avocado, broccoli and pumpkin seed oils, it promotes a natural, healthy looking glow to the skin. Another great exfoliator of our choice is the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. This non-abrasive cream exfoliator gently dissolves dead skin without being harsh to the skin. It is infused with natural fruit enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple, which will gently smooth and clarify tired, lacklustre skin, while leaving the skin looking and feeling smooth, revitalised and radiant.
FACIAL OIL.
A facial oil will help your fingers move smoothly across your skin and provide the right amount of slip for a massage. If you are using a massage tool you should always use a facial oil as a way to guide it around your skin and ensure the tool is not pulling on your skin. The Elemis Marine Facial Oil has been formulated with a trio of seaweeds, Padina Pavonica, Golden Seaweed and Roaring Water Kelp which help to deliver maximum hydration, whilst reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This perfect formula is great for mature skin and is vegan friendly too.
MASSAGING TOOL.
Using a tool alongside your facial oil will allow the product to penetrate deeper into the skin.
There are many tools to choose from for your facial massage from neck massagers to jade rollers. You can leave them in the fridge overnight for a cooling effect. Start by using small gentle movements from your eye to the outside, use it in between your eyebrows in a upward motion to lift and smooth and then across your brow bone to release any tension or strain across that muscle.
Alternatively if you do not have a massage tool then simply use your hands. For a lymphatic drainage massage, use a little facial oil to create some slip, take your fingers and sweep them along your jawline to the ear and dip behind the ear. Next make four circular motions behind the ear and drain down to your neck and your collarbone then repeat.
Having a facial massage, not only is a treat for yourself, but by taking a little extra time during your skincare routine, will add further benefits to achieving greater looking skin. If you would like to be shown how to give yourself a facial massage, fill out the contact form and one of our therapists will arrange a one to one session with you.
